Zu Beginn des Darwin-Jahres zeigt das Kunsthaus Graz die großformatigen Videoinstallationen der kalifornischen Künstlerin Diana Thater, die die Komplexität der Natur und deren Beziehung zum Menschen analysieren. Ihr neues Werk gorillagorillagorilla, das im Kunsthaus Graz uraufgeführt wird, ist sowohl eine Studie über menschliches und tierisches Verhalten als auch eine Weiterführung von Diana Thaters Untersuchung des Mediums Video als Instrument der Bildproduktion, das eindrucksvolle räumliche und visuelle Umgebungen schaffen kann.

At the beginning of the bicentenary of Darwin's birth, the Kunsthaus Graz is exhibiting the largeformat video installations of California artist Diana Thater, which analyse the complexity of nature and its relationship with mankind. Her new work, 'gorillagorillagorilla', having premiered in the Kunsthaus Graz, is both a study of human and animal behaviour and the artist's further investigation of the medium of video as an image production tool capable of creating impressive spatial and visual environments.

Interrogation Room ist die Ausstellung zum Trailer der Diagonale 09 und ist gleichzeitig eine Analyse der Ambivalenz von Beobachtung und Überwachung: Wie korrespondieren Räume, Machtstrukturen und Blickverhältnisse? Ausgangspunkt ist der Verhörraum, der assoziativ sowohl in der Psychiatrie als auch in der Kriminologie verortet ist. Dariusz Kowalski befragt ihn im Kunsthaus Graz nun auf mehreren Ebenen: als aufgeladenen Ort im Film, als Modell und als begehbare Installation des Filmsets.

'Interrogation Room' is an exhibition for the trailer of Diagonale 09 and at the same time an analysis of the ambivalence of observation and surveillance: How do spaces, power structures, and points of view correspond? Point of departure is the interrogation room, which we associate with both psychiatry and criminology. In the Kunsthaus Graz, Dariusz Kowalski now investigates the room at several levels: as a supercharged site on film, as a model, and as a walk-in installation on a film set.
