Dieses Zitat von Christoph Isherwood hat Hans-Peter Feldmann als Motto für sein Künstlerbuch GRAZ gewählt, das Camera Austria als Beitrag zu Graz 2003 - Kulturhauptstadt Europas herausgibt. Zur Präsentation des Buches wird Feldmann ab dem 10.Jänner 2003 die ca. 370 schwarz-weiß-Aufnahmen des Buches in einer Ausstellung in der Galerie Camera Austria zeigen.
Die Idee für das Künstlerbuch entstand 1999 - dem Jahr, in dem die Altstadt von Graz als UNESCO-Kulturerbe registriert worden ist und Hans-Peter Feldmann den Camera-Austria-Preis der Stadt Graz erhielt.
Isherwoods Zitat steht für die Methodik und auch Haltung Feldmanns: Sie ist geprägt von einem nicht-bewertenden Blick durch die Kamera auf die Dinge des Alltags. Feldmanns Fotografien entwerfen ein Bild dieser Stadt, das dem Blick der Bewohner auf ihre Stadt entsprechen könnte: ihre durch die täglichen Bewegungen durch die Stadt und nicht zuletzt durch ihre Arbeit geprägte Beziehung zu einer Stadt, in der nicht ihre Wahrzeichen oder große Ansichten wichtig sind, sondern die Wege, Häuser und Plätze, die jeder einzelne Bewohner in seiner eigenen Topographie zu seinem Bild dieser Stadt zusammenfügt.

Hans-Peter Feldmann chose this quotation from Christopher Isherwood as the motto for his artist book GRAZ, published by Camera Austria as a contribution to Graz 2003 - Cultural Capital of Europe. For the presentation of the book, Feldmann will show the roughly 370 black and white pictures from the book in an exhibition at Camera Austria Gallery beginning 10 January 2003. The idea for the artist book arose in 1999 -the year in which the historical centre of Graz was registered as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage and Hans-Peter Feldmann was awarded the Camera Austria Award of the City of Graz.
Isherwood's quotation also stands for Feldmann's methodology and attitude which are characterized by a non-judgmental view through the camera of the things of everyday life. Feldmann's photographs propose an image of this city that corresponds to the view of its residents:their relationship to the city, marked by daily movements through its space and by their work.In this view, it is not the landmarks or grand vistas that are important, but rather the paths, houses and squares, which every single resident, in their own topography, conjoins to form their own image of this city.
