Dieses Projekt ist eine Projektion eines bestimmten Abschnitts der jüngeren Geschichte der Türkei durch Istanbul. Es ist eine Periode, die vernebelt wird vom Terror, der von der harten Dynamik von Politik und Wirtschaft ausgeht und die das Leben prägt. Es ist auch eine Periode, die von den Resultaten dieser Dynamiken missachtet wird. Vom politischen Klima bis zur IWF-abhängigen Wirtschaft; Attacke der Binnenmigration; eine ständige kulturelle Schizophrenie, die von Konflikten zwischen Ost und West, Sekularismus und fundamentalem Islam, links und rechts, und schließlich von Nationalismus und Separatismus gespeist wird. Das vorliegende Projekt weicht vom Lauf der politischen und kulturellen Bedingungen ab und wendet sich gezielt den visuellen und akustischen Repräsentationen und Produktionen einer Generation zu, die zwischen zwei Positionen feststeckte -jener KünstlerInnen, gebürtig in den frühen 70er Jahren, die politisch stark engagiert waren, dafür aber hart bestraft wurden, und der verschlafenen Generation geboren in den 80ern, die sich vollkommen apolitisch gezeigt hat. Die Produktionsmechanismen und die Zusammensetzung von dem, was zwischen diesen Polen existiert, wurden im allgemeinen hohen Tempo entweder vernachlässigt oder überblendet. Als KuratorInnen des Projekts prüfen Erden Kosova und Basak Senova das Potential und die Auswirkungen, die in der Erforschung dieses bestimmten Zeitraums und dieser Generation stecken. Dabei basiert das Projekt auf mehreren zusammenhängenden Teilen künstlerischer Produktion; kulturellen Werkzeugen; visueller und sprachlicher Information von Comics und Fanzines.

This project is a projection of a particular period in the recent history of Turkey via Istanbul. It is such a period that is blurred with the terror imposed by the harsh dynamics of politics and economics that shaped life. It is also such a period that is neglected by the consequences of these dynamics. From political climate to IMF-dependent economy; internal migration attack; and a constant cultural schizophrenia fed by conflicts between East and West, secularism and fundamental Islam, left and right, and eventually nationalism and separatism. By departing from that flux of political and cultural conditions, the whole project addresses the visual and aural representations and productions of a targeted generation that was stuck in between two generations - that of early 70 ’s as highly politically engaged and has been severely punished for it and 80 ’s sleeping generation that has been totally apolitical. Yet, the production mechanism and the assembly of this in-between generation was either neglected or dissolved in the fast pace of life before. As the curators of the project Erden Kosova and Basak Senova inspect the potential and the outcome of such a research on this particular period and generation. Thereby, the project consists of several inter-related parts as the artistic productions; cultural arte-facts; and visual and verbal information via comics and fanzines. Works of Hatice Güleryüz, Aydan Mürtezaoglu, Serhat Köksal, Memed Erdener, Esat Basak, ZEN and Nalan Yirtmaç along with the excerpt from the works of three comics artists from Turkey will be displayed.
