Brot - Mangelware und Überfluss, sakrales Symbol und Überlebensmittel, Tabu und Biomüll: Michael Kos, 1963 in Villach geborener Multimediakünstler, hat Brot in vielen seiner "Erscheinungsformen" als "bespielbares Material" für sich entdeckt. Hostien in einer Brotlaibschale, Brot-Pantoffel, Brot-Kanonenkugel, Brot-Rennautos in einem Arenageviert oder ein ferngesteuertes "Panzerbrot" drehen die "Nutzlosigkeit" des Brotes als Tabubruch zu makaber-witzigen Umkehrsymbolen um. Das antike Erfolgsmotto "Brot und Spiele "wird zum Kunstgriff, der gleichermaßen Ironie, Witz, Achtung und Protest transportiert. Es ist ein ästhetisch einfach nachvollziehbares, dem Zynismus der Überflussgesellschaft in drastischer Form widersprechendes Wert-gegen-Werte-Spiel, das nichts erklärt, eher, im Sinne individueller Wahrnehmbarkeit, verklärt. Mit dem intermedialen Schwerpunkt "Unnütz dient dem Leben" am Kulturzentrum bei den Minoriten wird die ganzheitliche antike Symposiumsidee wieder aufgegriffen. Neben der Ausstellung Michael Kos,diskursiven Vorträgen, Ausweitungen auf Literatur (Sissi Tax, Franz Schuh) wird irgendwo in Graz Hermes Phettberg auf einer schwenkbaren Kanzel mit einer fünfstündigen Nocturn das Gegenwartsgefühl der totalen Verzweckung durchbrechen. Die Künstlergruppe Pen's Bungalow wird übrigens die Tage aktueller Kunst in Graz mit künstlerischen Interventionen begleiten und bekleiden.

Bread - in short supply and in abundance, sacral symbol and bread as staple food necessary forsurvival, taboo and biological waste: Michael Kos, multimedia artist born in Villach, Carinthia in 1963 has discovered for himself the many forms in which bread can be presented as "material for multipurpose usage". Hosts on a bread plate, bread slippers, bread cannon ball, bread racing cars as in a Roman quadriga or a remote control "panzer bread" break with taboos to convert the "uselessness" of bread to macabre-facetious symbols of reversion. "Bread and circuses "- the sucess formula of ancient Rome becomes a device to convey irony, wit, respect and protest alike. In aesthetic terms, Michael Kos' work is a game of worth versus values which is simple to relate to, yet it is in drastic contradiction to the cynicism of an affluent society; it does not give an explanation rather in terms of individual perception conveys the idea of transfiguration.
The intermedia highlight "being useless is useful for life" at the Kulturzentrum bei den Minoriten adopts the antique idea of an all embracing symposium. Besides the Michael Kos- exhibition, discursive public readings, elaborations on literature (Sissi T x,Franz Schuh) somewhere in Graz on a rotating pulpit Hermes Phettberg will break the atmosphere of living in present of total-purpose orientation with a five-hour-nocturne. Incidentally, the artists of the group Pen's Bungalow will do both, accompany and attire the contemporary art in Graz with artistic interventions.
