Vogts Fotografien, in denen Pferde und junge Mädchen die Hauptrolle spielen, entstehen in enger und kontinuierlicher Zusammenarbeit mit den Protagonistinnen auf dem ehemaligen "Gutshof der Englischen Fräulein "im bayerischen Mindelheim, wo die Künstlerin lebt und arbeitet. Ihre Werke sind "durch eine Spannung bestimmt ", so Jan Verwoert in seinem Essay über die Arbeiten Alexandra Vogts in Camera Austria, "die sich durch das Aufeinandertreffen von zwei fotografischen Ästhetiken aufbaut: der überhöhten Inszenierung einer Geschichte und der nüchternen fotografischen Abbildung. Was man sieht, lässt sich einerseits als die Dokumentation von Szenen verstehen, die sich so oder anders auf realen Pferdehöfen abspielen könnten, andererseits als die Re-Inszenierung durch Märchenbücher oder -filme vermittelter Fantasien. Gerade dieses Hin-und Herpendeln zwischen Realität und Fantasie aber kennzeichnet die Welt, die Alexandra Vogt beschreibt.Die Welt von TeenagerInnen, die im Umgang mit Pferden ihre Fantasien und Sehnsüchte ausleben. Der Pferdehof ist so zum einen ein sehr realer Ort, der geprägt ist durch die Körperlichkeit der großen Tiere, die Gerüche von Heu und Mist, die Aufgaben der Tierpflege und das Säubern von Stallungen. Zum anderen sind der Pferdehof und die Ferien auf dem Land eine romantische Gegenwelt zum normierten Alltag in Schule und Elternhaus, mit der sich die Wunschvorstellung vom Freisein verbindet."

Vogt's photographs, whose chief figures are horses and young girls, are created in a close, ongoing co-operation with the protagonists on a former farm of the "English Ladies convent "in Mindelheim, Bavaria, where the artist lives and works. Her works are "determined by a tension ", as Jan Verwoert says in his essay on the work of Alexandra Vogt in Camera Austria, "built up by the clash of two aesthetics of photography: the exaggerated enactment of a story and plain photographic representation. What we see can be interpreted as the documentation of scenes that might take place like this or differently on real horse farms and, on the other hand, as a re-enactment of fantasies transported by books or films of fairy-tales. But it is precisely this oscillation between reality and fantasy that characterises the world that Alexandra Vogt describes. The world of teenagers who live out their fantasies and yearnings with horses. On the one hand, then, the horse farm is a very real place characterised as it is by the corporeality of the large animals, the smell of hay and dung, and the tasks of grooming and stable cleaning. On the other hand, the horse farm and holidays in the country constitute a romantic counterworld to uniformed everyday life at school and at home, a world linked to the ideal of being free."
